Brighton-Le-Sands

Two weekends ago, we decided to go and spend the Australia Day long weekend at Brighton-Le-Sands, near Sydney.  We had never heard of that place, and since I had found a cheap hotel deal online, we thought we might as well go and check it out.

And well, it wasn't one of those time when you accidentally discover a fabulous vacations location.  Not even close.

Brighton Beach is located a few kms south of Sydney, on a bay that sits between the international airport and what looked like two or three oil depot.  Brighton also seems to be a seadoo paradise.  And a sports car paradise.  And a everything-else-that-has-a-big-engine paradise.  It was as loud on the water as it was on the road running all along the beach.

The weather was not beach-friendly the two first days we were there, so we decided to do some shopping and join the crowds in downtown Sydney to celebrate Australia Day.  There was a lot of people and a lot of things to see.  The kids really enjoyed having the opportunity to see their favourite tv characters for real.  We ate in Chinatown and finished filling our bellies with yummy gelato made with liquid nitrogen.  And then we headed back home, exhausted, way before the fireworks.

We spent our third and last day on the beach, but soon after lunch, the number of seadoos was increasing exponentially, the water didn't look really appealing anymore, and all in all, we had had enough of the area, so we packed up and headed back to Canberra.

I think it is fair to say that we will most likely never go back to Brighton-Le-Sands…  With all the wonderful beaches around, we have the opportunity to choose better, and we will!
