A few weeks ago, Mia was invited to her first friend's birthday party in Australia.

She didn't know who the birthday girl was (the mother had invited the whole class -28 little 3-4 years old!-), she got injured twice (we came home with a split lip and two bloody knees), we froze solid for two hours (the party was outside, but the invitation didn't mention it), but still, IT WAS THE BEST PARTY EVER!

Poor little baby, I realize now how much she was looking forward to having her own friends...

PS: And in case you were still wondering, according to our experience, which is starting to become quite extensive, little Aussie kids don't open their presents during their birthday parties.  Still not sure why though.

  1. We never opened our presents at parties either... Some Brit kids did, but most people didn't think it was "quite the thing" to open your presents and revel in your glory/stash in front of everyone! Aside from the general feeling of embarrassment from receiving parents, I think there was the desire to avoid tantrums and/or people realizing that you were giving away that totally inappropriate make-up kit/thong swimsuit Barbie/etc that your little darling got at their own birthday!

    1. Make sense. Especially when you have 28 kids, so 28 presents -at least!- to open!
