Traveling: Queensland, Brisbane

You may remember that, four months ago already, we did a 10-day road trip in Queensland. And you may also remember that during this trip, we received a notification to vacate our house, and that once we were back from the trip, we only had three weeks left to move out. Well, that's it. After the move, we had to unpack and get settled. And after that, it was the end of the year craziness, and then the holidays and the school vacations. And finally, four months later, I am blogging about the trip.

Let's start at the beginning: it was a great trip, and a lot less difficult than one could expect to do a long road trip with two kids and a newborn. BUT. The road that crosses Queensland from North to South is long. Very long. And boring. Oh so boring. We never ever see the coast, all you have to look at are fields and mines, there is nowhere fun to stop on the way and finding food and toilets is a challenge. The kids were extremely patient and the Queensland Highway Trivia was almost our only distraction (there are signs along the highway with trivia questions and other signs a few kms later with the answers).

Our trip began in Brisbane, Queensland's capital city. We stayed there two days with some friends. I am sure there is plenty to do in Brisbane, but for little tourists like us, two days were enough. We walked around downtown (including two hours spent looking for nappies, because mysteriously, all the shops were out of the size we needed for Charlotte...), played at South Bank Parklands (a giant outdoor aquatic playground, which includes a man-made beach), visited GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art), and went on a little boat ride on the river. And you know what the best is? All of those activities were completely free and really really fun. We love places like that!
