Looking for suggestions

L'an dernier, nous avions prévu s'offrir un petit voyage tout inclus dans le sud.  Mais avec le chaos du déménagement outre-mer, nous avons du laisser tomber.  Ou plutôt, remettre à plus tard.  Et bien, plus tard, c'est maintenant.

Nous sommes donc entrain d'essayer de se planifier un petit voyage en famille en Asie du sud-est.  Au départ, j'avais l'intention de réserver simplement un petit forfait de dernière minute.  Mais après avoir regardé quelques images sur le web, et lu quelques forums, il me prend maintenant des envies d'en faire un petit peu plus...  Ça a commencé par l'idée de rajouter un simple arrêt de deux jours à Bangkok à un possible voyage dans un resort en Thaïlande.  Puis tant qu'à y être, pourquoi pas ne faire que quelques jours de plage, deux jours à Bangkok, et aller explorer un peu plus loin.  Et puis finalement, pourquoi ne pas laisser tomber le resort, trouver des logements moins touristiques et vraiment découvrir le pays...

Et maintenant, c'est la panique totale dans ma tête.  Trop de possibilités dans un coin du monde que je ne connais pas du tout.  Devrait-on se gâter à ne rien faire sur la plage pendant une semaine, ou bien partir à l'aventure?  Qu'est-il vraiment possible (et agréable, et sécuritaire) de faire avec deux tout petits enfants?  Et où aller?  Le traditionnel Phuket?  Une autre destination plus recluse?  Laisser tomber la Thaïlande et aller plutôt voir la Malaisie?

Est-ce que certains d'entres-vous connaissent ce coin du monde?  Avez-vous de bonnes ou mauvaises expériences de voyage à partager?  Je serais bien reconnaissante de recevoir vos conseils, idées et suggestions!

Last year, we had planned to go on an all-inclusive sunny holiday during the winter.  But with the chaos of moving overseas, we had to let that go.  Or rather, save it for later.  But now, the time has come.

So we are currently trying to book a little family holiday in South-East Asia.  At the start, I was planning to book whatever decent last minute holiday deal I could find.  But after browsing online a bit, I began having cravings for a little bit more...  It started with the idea of maybe adding two days in Bangkok to a possible resort holiday in Thailand.  Then I thought, we could do only a few days at the beach, two days in Bangkok, and then try to go and explore a little further.  And while we are there, why not just skip the resort, find some nice isolated accommodation and really get to see what the country is all about...

And now, I am just plain confused.  There are too many possibilities for an area I know almost nothing about.  Should we spoil and spend a week at the beach doing next to nothing, or go on an adventure?  What is really sensible (and fun, and safe) to do with two very young kids?   And where to go?  To famous Phuket?  Somewhere else less visited?  Let go of Thailand and visit Malaysia instead?

Have any of you visited this area of the world?  Do you have good or bad travel experiences to share?  I would be grateful for your advice, ideas or suggestions!
