Long weekends

Dans quelques heures, nous commençons notre deuxième fin de semaine de trois jours consécutives.  Hourra!

La semaine dernière, nous avons sorti nos vélos et sommes allés faire un tour à Floriade, un festival des tulipes, ici à Canberra.  Malgré que c'était grand et bien beau, on trouvait que les tulipes étaient pas mal sur leur fin, et il ventait plus que jamais cette journée là.  Tellement, que le vent a même renversé Mia alors qu'elle marchait tranquillement.  Bref, pas la journée idéale pour le vélo et un pique-nique.

Nic avait aussi entendu parlé que c'était le temps des baleines sur la côte, et qu'on pouvait facilement les apercevoir à partir de la terre ferme à Batemans Bay.  On a donc décidé d'aller tenter notre chance lundi dernier et sommes descendus à la mer... pour finalement ne rien voir du tout.  Mais on a quand même eu droit à une belle journée chaude sur la plage, quelques petites promenades sur le bord de la mer et un bon fish and chips pour finir la journée.  Et comme la saison des baleines s'étire jusqu'à novembre, on aura sans doute l'occasion d'aller retenter notre chance.

In a few hours, it will be the beginning of our second long weekend in a row.  Hurray!

Last weekend, we dusted off our bikes and went for a ride to the Floriade, a tulip festival here in Canberra.  Even if it was quite big and beautiful, it may have been a bit late in the season and we found that the tulips were not looking so fresh.  It was also one of the windiest day ever, with winds so strong that they literally knocked Mia off her feet at one point.  So all in all, not a great day for a bike ride and a picnic.

Nic had also heard that it was whale season, and that the whales could be seen from the shore down at Batemans Bay.  So we decided to test our luck on Monday, and drove down to the ocean... where we saw absolutely nothing.  However, we still managed to get a beautiful sunny day on the beach, a few little hikes by the ocean and a yummy fish and chips for dinner.  And since whale season last until November, we'll probably have another opportunity later on to test our luck again.
