Last visit in Sydney
Après avoir visité les Blue Mountains il y a quelques semaines, nous avons terminé la longue fin de semaine par une dernière visite à Sydney. On est repassé par nos coins préférés et avons profité de Vivid et de sa foule immense. On a aussi réussi une rencontre de dernière minute avec un ami de longue date et sa petite famille, et on s'est maudit de ne pas l'avoir fait avant. Bien que Mia ait été malade une partie de la fin de semaine et que la température n'est pas été super, c'était vraiment agréable, encore. On va tellement s'ennuyer de cette ville-la.

After visiting the Blue Mountains a few weeks ago, we finished the long weekend in Sydney, hiting our favorite spots one last time and enjoying Vivid and its craaaazy crowds. We also managed to finally have a last minute catch up with an old friend and his little family and cursed ourselves for having waited that long before doing so. Sure, Mia was sick part of the weekend and the weather wasn't terrible, but it was still good. Man, are we going to miss this place.

Sydney
Notre premier et notre dernier voyage à Sydney, tous deux pendant le long weekend de juin. On dirait que le premier était hier, mais en même temps, tellement de choses ont changées. On aura adoré nos escapades à Sydney, la première autant que la dernière, et toutes les autres entre les deux.

Our first and our last trips to Sydney, both during the June long weekend. The first one feels like it was yesterday, but at the same time, so much has changed. We loved our weekends in Sydney, from the first one to the last one, and all the ones in between.

Exploring: Sydney, North Shore
Il y a très, très longtemps, nous sommes allés à Sydney pour reconduire ma mère à l'aéroport. Nous voulions en profiter pour y passer quelques jours -le premier voyage de Charlotte!- et cherchions un hotel qui pouvait accommoder notre large groupe (3 adultes, 2 enfants et un nouveau-né). Le seul endroit qui semblait disponible était situé sur la rive nord de Sydney, à Cremorne Point plus exactement, un coin où nous n'étions jamais allés.
Bien que l'hotel ne mérite aucune mention, la location était superbe! Ce quartier est bien mentionné dans la plupart des guides touristiques, mais je n'y avais jamais porté attention -trop loin, on ne peut s'y rendre à pieds, etc. Et bien, je peux maintenant affirmer que le coin vaut le petit effort supplémentaire (en fait, c'est vraiment juste de l'autre côté du Harbour Bridge); on avait des vues incroyables et on se retrouvait loin des foules habituelles de Darling Harbour et de l'Opéra. C'était calme, comme si nous étions dans une toute autre ville.
Nous avons marché beaucoup pendant le weekend. Nous avons fait la marche autour de Mossman Bay deux fois; une marche réputée comme étant l'une des plus belles de Sydney. C'était, effectivement, magnifique. Les sentiers sont dans des boisés naturels, parsemés de bateaux, de maisons historiques et de splendides jardins, et offrent des vues à couper le souffle sur la baie et la ville de Sydney. Nous avons aussi explorer la baie de Mossman en traversier, toujours amusant et une bonne façon de raccourcir une marche autrement un peu longue pour des toutes petites pattes.
Le reste de notre weekend fut passé entre le jardin botanique qui était resplendissant de fleurs et la plage de Manly, où les enfants ont profité des rayons chauds du soleil pour faire leur première saucette dans l'océan de la saison. Nous avons aussi fait un petit bout de la marche entre Coogee et Bondi, mais le ciel menaçant nous a fait peur et nous avons rebroussé chemin, au grand plaisir des enfants qui, rendu là, en avaient plus qu'assez de marcher!
Alors malgré la température incertaine, le mauvais hotel hors de prix et les adieux trop tristes, nous avons eu droit à un autre weekend agréable à Sydney. Définitivement, cette ville a beaucoup à offrir. On ne s'en tannera jamais.
A long, long time ago, we went to Sydney to drop my mother at the airport. We wanted to spend a few days over there -Charlotte's first trip!- and were looking for a hotel room that could fit our large group (3 adults, 2 kids and one newborn). The only one that seemed available was on the north shore of Sydney, at Cremorne Point more precisely, an area where we had never been.
While the hotel was not great at all, the location, on the other hand, was superb! Even though this area is featured in most tourist books, I had never paid any attention to it -too far, can't walk there from downtown, etc. Well, I can say now that it is definitely worth the little extra effort (it's really just across the Harbour Bridge); the views were priceless and you are far from the usual crowds of Darling Harbour and the Opera House. It felt very peaceful, almost like we were in a whole different city.
We walked a lot during the weekend. We walked along Mossman Bay twice, a walk that is often cited as one of the best in Sydney. It was indeed beautiful: set in natural bush land, dotted with boats, heritage houses and splendid gardens, and with stunning views across the bay to the city skyline and the Opera House. We also explored the bay by ferry, always fun and a good way to shorten long walks for little legs.
The rest of our weekend was spent hanging out in the Botanic Garden, where the flowers were breathtaking, and enjoying a bit of warm sun rays in Manly, where the kids enjoyed their first dip of the season in the cold ocean. We also started the walk between Coogee and Bondi, but the stormy skies scared us after a short while and we quit -much to the pleasure of the kids who by then had more than enough of walking!
So despite the uncertain weather, the bad but outrageously expensive hotel, and the very sad goodbyes, we had another lovely weekend in Sydney. This city just has so much to offer, I don't think I will ever have enough!

Exploring: Taronga Zoo
Il y a quelques temps déjà, nous avons surpris les enfants avec une visite au zoo de Taronga, à Sydney. Les enfants sont toujours HYPER excités de visiter un zoo, et celui de Sydney était sur notre liste depuis longtemps. On a eu une très belle journée, qui a débuté par un beau tour de bateau, mais qui s'est malheureusement terminée avec un petit garçon qui faisait pas mal de fièvre... Mia avait toutefois de l'énergie pour deux (comme d'habitudes), et a bien profité des spectacles, du plus mignon bébé gorille jamais vu, et des parcs de jeux (c'est elle tout en haut de la grande tour!). J'ai très peu de photos de la journée (et aucune n'inclue d'animaux!?), mais les voici quand même.
A while ago, we surprised the kids with a visit to Taronga zoo in Sydney. The kids are always SUPER excited to visit a zoo, and the one in Sydney had been on our list for a long time. It was a beautiful day that started with a fun boat ride, but ended with a little boy with a high fever... Mia, however, had enough energy for two (as usual) and made the most of the shows, the cutest baby gorilla ever and the playgrounds (that's her, all the way to the top of the big tower!). I have very few pictures of the day (and none of them include animals!?), but here they are nevertheless.

This weekend
Vous faites quoi en fin de semaine?
Nous partons pour Sydney afin de surprendre les enfants avec une visite à Taronga zoo, tant que je suis encore assez mobile pour déambuler toute une journée dans les côtes. Le soleil devrait être présent et la température juste assez chaude pour justifier quelques crèmes glacées.

Weekend in Sydney
En fin de semaine dernière, nous avons amené nos "touristes" pour un weekend à Sydney. On a fait la grande tournée: Darling Harbour, Paddy's Market, Chinatown, Pitt Street Mall, Botanic Garden, Opera House, Circular Quay. On s'est aussi beaucoup promené (et on a beaucoup mangé) dans Surry Hill, et nous avons passé notre dimanche matin au Power House Museum, car il tombait des cordes.
C'était un weekend plutôt couvert, mais très chaud (il a donc fallu manger de la crème glacée à tous les jours, évidemment). On a vu beaucoup, mais avec un rythme pas mal relaxe, qui a même inclu une sieste familiale en plein jardin botanique. On aime donc ça Sydney.

It was overcast, but hot (which meant ice cream every day of course). And although we saw a lot, the rhythm was relaxed and even included a family nap in the middle of the Botanical Garden. We love you Sydney!
